Send the renter link
Share the check-in link and track the renter's progress from sent to verified.
Once you have raised a booking, KeyProof gives you one link to send your renter. They tap it, prove who they are, and check themselves in. This is the heart of KeyProof.
How to send the link
- Create the booking (see Raise a booking). A banner appears: "Send the renter their link".
- Choose how to send it:
- Copy link: copies the link so you can paste it into any chat. You will see "Link copied. Paste it in the chat."
- WhatsApp: opens WhatsApp with a ready-made message and the link already in it.
- Send it in the same chat you booked the renter in, whether that is WhatsApp, Instagram, or text.
You can get the link again any time. Open the booking and look for the Renter link section, where you will find Copy link, Message renter, and WhatsApp renter.
What the renter does
The link opens in their phone's browser. No app, no account, no password. In about two minutes they:
- Enter their name, date of birth, home address and mobile number.
- Give their DVLA driving-licence check code, so you can confirm their licence with the DVLA.
- Verify their ID: photograph their ID document and take a quick live selfie, matched by Stripe. You see the result, never their documents.
- Sign your rental agreement on screen.
- Acknowledge the deposit.
There is a small one-off fee the renter pays for their own checks, shown to them during check-in, so the verification costs you nothing per hire.
Sending your own messages
KeyProof gives you ready-made messages you can drop into WhatsApp: Booking confirmation, Chase to check in, Return reminder, and Review request. Open the booking, choose the message you want, and it opens in WhatsApp for you to send.
KeyProof never sends these for you. You always send from your own WhatsApp, so the message comes from you, in the chat your customer already knows.
Tracking the renter's progress
Every booking shows a status so you can see where the renter has got to:
- Link sent: you have created the booking and sent the link; the renter has not checked in yet.
- Renter verified: they have completed the check-in: details, licence, ID and signature all done.
- On hire: the car is out with them.
- Returned: the car is back and you have logged the return.
- Closed: the hire is finished and sealed.
- Cancelled: the booking did not go ahead.
Inside the booking you can also see the timeline: when the booking was created, when the renter checked in, when they signed, when their identity was verified, and when the licence was marked checked.
If a renter has not checked in, use the Chase to check in message to nudge them, or resend the link.
