ID and DVLA licence checks
How the renter proves their identity through Stripe and how their driving licence is checked against the DVLA.
Two checks sit at the centre of every check-in: proving the renter is who they say they are, and confirming their driving licence is valid. Both happen on the renter's phone from the link you send.
The identity check
The renter photographs their ID document and takes a quick live selfie. These run through Stripe, a regulated identity provider, which matches the two. This is how you know the person collecting the car is really them.
You see the result, pass or fail, never the documents themselves. KeyProof keeps only the check reference and the result, not the raw ID images or the selfie. See Renter data and how long it is kept.
The DVLA licence check
The photocard alone does not show penalty points, a disqualification, or whether the licence is valid right now. The DVLA check code does. The renter generates a check code from the GOV.UK "Share your driving licence" service, and gives it to you with their licence number. You use the code to confirm their licence against the DVLA's own service. It only lets you view the record; it never changes anything on their licence.
The ID and selfie step and the per-booking renter fee run through Stripe. They are switched on per firm as the verification stack goes live; the DVLA licence check code flow works today.
