Extend or amend a hire
Change the dates on a live hire, keep the price right, and handle a renter who asks for longer.
Hires move. A renter needs the car another few days, or the pickup slips. You change the dates on the booking rather than raising a new one, so the record follows the car.
Changing the dates yourself
- Open the booking and find the hire dates.
- Set the new start or end date. There are quick buttons for plus one day, plus three days and plus one week.
- Save. If the new dates overlap another hire on the same car, you get the clash warning and can go ahead anyway if you know the overlap is fine.
Keeping the price right
If the car has a rate saved and the length of the hire changed, KeyProof works out the new rate-card price and offers to apply it. It is ticked by default, so extending a hire does not quietly leave you charging for the original days. Untick it to keep the price you already agreed, and you can still type any price you like in the money section afterwards.
When the renter asks
The renter can ask for longer from their own link, without a phone call. They pick a later return date and send the request. Nothing is charged and nothing changes on the booking: it is a request.
You get an email, and an alert on your phone if you have those switched on. The requested date shows on the booking. If you agree, change the dates as above; the hire is only extended when you do it.
A card deposit hold lasts about seven days, so a hire extended well past that may need the deposit handled another way. See Deposits and card holds.
